Infrared guide heating methods can irradiate samples from a wide range of directions to raise them to high temperatures in ultra-high vacuums or air. Some of the heating methods used are illustrated below. Samples can also be kept at high temperatures while irradiating them with X-rays, electron beams or neutrons.
